Sporting Futures - See it, Try It, Love It !

Sporting Futures: See it, Try it, Love it
This FREE community event is for you, your friends, your family and for everyone on your street or at your school.
With a sporting Champion opening the day's events and with a prize draw for those early birds who arrive between 11am-12noon this promises to be a great day.
 
They'll be displays from some of the top demo teams in the Country.  Aerial Acrobatics performers 'Scarabeus' will be displaying at 12noon and 3pm. There will also be plenty of have-a-go workshops that introduce you to some of the very best sport and physical activity in North London. Activities include: Athletics, Basketball, Netball, Boccia, Tri-Golf, Skipping, Hula Hoop, Martial Arts, Skateboarding, Rowing, Table Tennis and Tai Chi.
 
There's Health advice from the British Heart Foundation and careers advice from the Learning Skills Council.
 
The BIG Dance stage includes: Ballroom, Latin, North London's Wild Cats cheerleaders, Dare2 Dance with D-Clash Roadshow and record breaking attempts from the Jiving Lindy Hoppers.  
 
Tottenham Hotspur FC will be offering lots of great football workshops. 
 
If that isn't enough Enfield Road Safety will be promoting all aspects of cycling. Dr Bike will be offering free cycle check ups. The Company of Cyclists' Get Cycling Road Show will provide an opportunity to try out different types of bikes in a safe and supportive environment. There's plenty to do from the beginner to the cycling enthusiast and so bring your bike. See the Festival web site for information on cycle routes into the Festival.
 
Bring along a picnic and spend the day. With so much to do for all ages and abilities make sure you put the date in your diary and come along to See it, Try it, Love it!

Activity Challenge

Dance
From breakdancing to ballroom, street dancing to tap, there will be a whole range of dancing displays and workshops taking place on the dance stage as part of the Big Dance campagin. So whether you would like to trip the light fandango, master a backspin or learn to paddle and roll there is something for you. 
 
The Step into Dance programme led by the Royal Academy of Dance aims to widen participation in dance for secondary school students, regardless of experience or ability levels.  It is guaranteed to excite and inspire. All the students need is enthusiasm! The programme is open access and is running in eight London boroughs (Camden, Enfield, Islington, Harringey, Hammersmith & Fulham, Croydon, Merton and Wandsworth. From Jan 2009 it will also expand into Bromley, Bexley  and Barnet). How to get there:

The Lee Valley Athletics Centre
Lee Valley Leisure Complex, 61 Meridian Way, Picketts Lock, London N9 0AR
There is a free shuttle bus circling between Tottenham Hale Station, Tottenham Marshes and the Lee Valley Athletics Centre.
The first bus will leave Tottenham Hale Station for the Athletics Centre at 11:00am and then on the every half hour / hour.
Alternatively a second bus will leave the Athletics Centre at 11:30 for Tottenham Marshes and then on the every half hour / hour.

By Bus
Bus W8 stops outside the Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

By Train
The nearest train station is Ponders End (5 mins walk) via a direct link to Liverpool Street.
The W8 bus can be picked up from Edmonton Green station
The nearest tube is Tottenham Hale – 4.5 miles away

By Bike
The Lee Valley Complex is accessible by a range of cycle routes including:
  • The River Lee towpath 
  • A traffic free cycle route along Meridian Way 
  • Local signed on-road cycle routes

The Lee Valley Leisure Complex is located off the A1055 Meridian Way.

Leave the M25 at junction 25 and follow the A10 to the traffic lights and turn left, follow straight ahead for approximately 6 miles along the A1055. The complex is on the left hand side.
